Melvin W. Baker

Melvin W. Baker 84, formerly of Wenona died Saturday morning (Oct. 1, 2011) at Heartland Health Care Center, Henry.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Hagi Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Baker was born Sept. 20, 1927 in Rutland, the son of Delbert C. and Ruth W. (Arndt) Baker. He married Edina C. Hill, May 5, 1951 in Wenona. She preceded him in death Nov. 24, 2006.
Mel had farmed in the Wenona area and was a truck driver. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Wenona, American Legion Post # 8, Wenona and the Teamsters Union Local, Peru. He attended Rutland and Wenona schools and was a graduate of Wenona High School. Melvin served in the US Army following WWII in the Philippines.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Joan Westerhold, Bloomington, Jayne (Dennis) McNeese, Chillicothe and Sandra (David) Nauman, Magnolia, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three sisters, Wilma Schroeder, Peru, Esther Morris, Peru and Hetta Grasser, Amboy, also surviving is one brother, Keith (Mozelle) Baker, Woodworth, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death his parents, wife, one sister, Myna Berardinelli, five brothers, Calvin, Edwin, Delbert Jr., Dale and Richard Baker.
Memorials may be made to the family or the Alzheimer’s unit of Heartland Health Care Center, Henry.

Stephen E. Schlosser, 46 of Chillicothe passed away Sunday, January 30, 2012 at his residence.
He was born May 10, 1965 in Peoria, IL the son of Lloyd P. and Lois J. (Donath) Schlosser.
Surviving are his parents; Lloyd Schlosser of Peoria and Lois Dalton of Chillicothe and one sister; Angela (Ken) Mrazek of Chillicothe.
Steve worked at the Track Inn.
He enjoyed music.

Charlotte R. Herriford, 82 of Chillicothe passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at her residence.
She was born August 7, 1929 in Havana, IL the daughter of James N. and Lena (Miley) Ramsey. She married Clifford D. Herriford on June 10, 1951 in Ipava, IL. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1999.
Surviving are one daughter; Brenda (Ronald) Eddinger of Loves Park, IL, one son; Steven (Karen) Herriford of Chillicothe, two grandsons; Travis Herriford of Henderson, NY and Sean Herriford of Chillicothe, one step-grandson; Ryan (Carolyn) Eddinger of Lacompton, KS and two great-grand-daughters; Stella and Sophia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and one daughter; Marsha.
She was a member of the Chillicothe Quilt Club.
Funeral service was held at 10:00am on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. The Pastor Randy Hargate officiated. Burial was in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Elsie Ann Blankenship

Elsie Ann Blankenship, age 69, of Chllicothe died on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at her home.
She was born on March 3, 1942 in Alexander County, IL the daughter of Virgil C. and Pearl M. (Denton) Thomas. Elsie married William E. Blankenship on February 21, 1957 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2008.
Surviving are her children: Barbara Hardmeier of West Peoria, Belinda (Mike) Dossett of Chillicothe and William E. (Cassandra) Blankenship, Jr., of Mapleton, IL. Eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sisters: Grace Jeffries of Chillicothe and Virgie (Jim) Johnson of Mason City. One brother, William “Bill” (Judy) Thomas of Mebane, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant brother, Jerry Lee Thomas.
She was a homemaker and foster mother.
She attended the Chillicothe Christian Church and past member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe.
She has gone to be with her loving husband and parents in heaven. She loved her family and always talked about her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Rev. Bob Hentrich will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rescue 33.

Ruth Ina Hawley, 72, of Fort Smith, formerly of Chillicothe died January 26, 2012 in Fort Smith. She was born September 3, 1939 in Pekin, IL to Floyd Alfred and Orma Williams Kuhn.
She married Gerald D. Hawley. He preceded her in death May 28, 2006.
She is survived by one daughter, Pam Bejerk and husband Nathan of Chillicothe, IL; four sons, David Meints and wife Elizabeth of Milwaukee, WI., Scott Meints of Chillicothe, IL., Curt Hawley and wife Chris of Phoenix, AZ., and Craig and wife Hokyung of Chandler, AZ; two sisters, Char Nelson of Belvidere, IL and Sylvia Spivey of Munster, IN; one brother, Floyd Kuhn of Rockford, IL; twelve grandchildren and two great children.
She was a retired employee of Sears & Roebuck and member of East Side Baptist Church, Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be Thursday February 2, 2012 at 12:00 (Noon) at Calvary Baptist Church; 1028 West Cloverdale Road, Chillicothe under the direction of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home. Pastor Curtis Cochran will officiate. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery.
The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church until the beginning of the service at 12:00 (Noon)

Carol J. Sturgeon

Carol J. Sturgeon, 75, of Chillicothe, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 23, 2012, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL.
She was born January 3, 1937, in Peoria, IL, the daughter of George B. and Edwardene (Stoker) Stuart. She married Richard N. Sturgeon on August 26, 1956, in Chillicothe.
Surviving are her husband, Richard; two sons, Stephen (Brenda) Sturgeon of Magnolia, IL, and Stuart (Michelle) Sturgeon of El Paso, IL; five grandchildren; and one brother, George Stuart of Pekin, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carol had worked as an operator at Illinois Bell Telephone and later as a secretary at Mossville Grade School. She also worked at the Peoria Christian Center and then at Parkhill (now Heritage Manor) Nursing Home as the activities director.
She volunteered at St. Edward’s School and Chillicothe Bible Church.
She loved God, and delighted in serving her family and many friends.
The funeral service were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Pastor Phil Bachman officiated. Burial was in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Visitation was held two hours prior to the funeral service at the funeral home (8 a.m. to 10 a.m.). Memorials may be made to Rescue 33. Shelley Kay Deppolder, age 53, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at her residence.
Shelley was born on March 24, 1958 in Cicero, Illinois to Lewis E. and Marian L.(Shelly) Victor. She married Dwain Steven Deppolder on May 3, 1975 in Peoria, Illinois.
Shelley is survived by her husband, Dwain; her children, Steven (Trisha) Deppolder of Chillicothe, Bobbie (Tim Harris) Deppolder of Washington, Illinois and Amanda Kaschmitter of Peoria, Illinois; her grandchildren, Isaak Everett, Ivy Turner, Gabriel Deppolder, Kaleigh Everett, Tyler Bolton, and Addyson Deppolder; two sisters, Shelia (Donald) Shepard-Shover of Chillicothe, Illinois and Vicki Brown of Petersburg, Illinois and her dear friends, Ray & Rita Martin, who stood by her side until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Abraham Kaschmitter.
Shelley was a claims adjuster for Illinois Mutual Insurance Company. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe and was previously a volunteer for Rescue 33. Shelley enjoyed making jewelry and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11am at Weber-Hurd Funeral in Chillicothe. Pastor Curtis Cochran officiated. Visitation was held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 4pm to 6pm at the funeral home and on Monday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Academy. Christina M. Ratcliff, age 46, of Chillicothe, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at her residence.
Christina was born on April 7, 1965 in Decatur, Illinois to Thomas and Barbara (Szymkoski) Browne.
Christina is survived by her mother, Barbara of Decatur, Illinois; her children, Brandon Ratcliff and Brooke Ratcliff both of Chillicothe, Illinois; her sister, Kerri and husband William Madden of Norfolk, Virginia and her brother, Sean Browne of Decatur, Illinois. Her father preceded her in death.
Christina is most proud of her children Brandon and Brooke. She raised two brilliant, talented, strong, and compassionate individuals. In addition to being a wonderful mother, Christina worked as a Registered Nurse for OSF St. Francis Medical Center for 25 years. She touched thousands of patient’s lives with her kind-hearted nursing care that she provided in their time of need. She was also a leader in her profession, most recently being promoted to manager of labor and delivery and antepartum at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She enjoyed running, traveling, spending time with her children, and attending their sporting events.
Cremation rites will be accorded and Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 10am at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 5pm to 7pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Memorials may be made at South Side Bank in Chillicothe to the Christina Ratcliff Memorial for the benefits of the children.

Lois Jean Dalton, 76 of Chillicothe passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born September 13, 1935 in Chillicothe the daughter of Earnest and Esabelle (Thomas) Donath.
She is survived by one daughter; Angela (Den) Schlosser-Mrazek of Chillicothe, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Steven and one sister.
Lois was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
She lived along the river and liked relaxing walks on the beach and spending time with her great-granddaughter.

Jacquelyn L Workman, age 78, of Chillicothe died on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born on October 8, 1933 in Henry the daughter of Dan and Sally (Ziegler) Enos. She married Jack L. Workman on April 22, 1960 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1986.
Surviving are two daughters: Julia L. (Allen) Wimer of Chillicothe and Janet L. (Bruce) Munk of Peoria. One grandson, Chad E. Simonton of Chillicothe. One great granddaughter, Rayne Simonton of Chillicothe. One brother, Jerry Enos of Peoria and one sister, Jean Christy of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Janice and one brother, Bob.
She was a Secretary for several different companies during her life, Illinois Valley Central School District 321, Caterpillar, Inc., and Northup Oil Company in Chillicothe.
Jacquelyn was a avid bowler. She was an animal lover, she enjoyed riding horses.
Special thanks to Proctor Hospital, Kindred Hospital of Illinois, Methodist Medical Center and Heritage Manor and to all her friends and neighbors that helped in caring for her.

Anna Mae Adams, 86 of Chillicothe passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Heritage Health in Chillicothe, IL.
She was born May 15, 1925 in Chillicothe the daughter of Calvin Dewey and Clara Ellen (Taylor) Lukehart.  She married Robert Joe Adams on April 28, 1946 in Chillicothe.  He preceded her in death on March 22, 1990.
Surviving are her children; Gary Adams of Morton, Sharon (Mike) Johns of Peoria, Joanne (Jim) McMahon of Morton and Pam (Edward)Martin of Sparland.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 grandson, 1 great-grandson and 2 sisters.
Anna Mae worked for the Ben Franklin store in Chillicothe for many years.
She was of Methodist faith.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, February 16, 2012 with visitation 1 hour prior at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.  The Rev. Timothy G. Bowermaster (Doc)

Timothy G. Bowermaster (Doc), 68, of Chillicothe died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 after an 8 month fight against cancer at his residence.
He was born October 4, 1943 in Pekin, IL the son of Thurl C and Florence M. (Gibson) Bowermaster.
He married Colette L. Palumbo on April 4, 1964. Together they had one daughter, Lynette (Kurt) Norris of St. Charles, IL., and one son Michael (Rachel) Bowermaster of Chillicothe, IL.
Also surviving him are three sisters Judi (Sam) Johnson, Chris (Jim) Bridges, and Amy (Rickie) Beard all of Peoria, five granddaughters; Kennedi and Hailey Norris, Madelyn, Grace and Audrey Bowermaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Mark Benson.
Tim graduated from Spalding High School and went on to have a career in the car business for almost 40 years. He worked as the Finance Manager at Riverside Chevrolet in Chillicothe for 15 years, last working Feb. 11, 2012.
Tim most enjoyed spending time with his three sisters, children and granddaughters. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, boating and watching western movies.
Tim always had a positive attitude and was so much fun to be around.
He was a great man and was loved by his family and friends. His memory will live on with them.
Visitation was held from 5-7:00pm on Friday, February 17 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Funeral service was held at 11:00am on Saturday at the funeral home with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Cremation rites were accorded following the service and inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Cancer Center in Peoria.

Evelyn J. (Wright) Prather, 86 of Chillicothe passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born August 25, 1925 in Jacksonville, IL the daughter of Roscoe J. and Verneal A. (Perkins) Wright. She married William R. Prather on October 1, 1976 in Henry, IL.
Surviving are her husband William of Chillicothe, one son; John A. Morris of Chillicothe, one sister; Linda Tucker of Elgin, IL step-children; Patrick Prather of Chillicothe, Rhonda Tank of Peoria and Neil Prather of Peoria. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Ryan Tank, Nathaniel Prather and Nicholas Prather along with several family members residing in Jacksonville, IL.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Evelyn formerly worked for the State of Illinois in the Peoria regional office of the Attorney General.
Her past civic involvements included President of the Illinois Association of Senior Citizens, Vice Chairperson of Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, Regional Coordinator for the Seven County Senior Advocacy Conference, Chairman of the Chillicothe Township Heart Fund Drive, Board of Directors for Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce and the Rural Peoria County Council on Aging, Advisory Council for P.C.C.E.O. Foster Grandparent Program and the Community Workshop and Training Center and Co-Chairman of Chillicothe’s Claud-Elen Days Festival.
Evelyn served as Past President, Past State Membership Chairman and also the 17th Congressional Co-Coordinator of the Illinois Democratic Women. Her local political involvement included serving as Champaign Manager for her husband’s campaigns, and volunteering for several local State and National campaigns including Attorney General Hartigan and Jeanne Simon.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 (Noon) on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville, IL Rev. Christopher L. Ashmore will officiate. Marguerite C. (Maggie) Drillon

Mrs. Marguerite C. (Maggie) Drillon, Loving Mother and Friend of All
Marguerite C. (Myers) Drillon, 95, of Chillicothe died peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Heartland Manor Care in Peoria, Illinois.
She was born on July 6, 1916 in Delavan, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Kathryn (White) Myers. She married Franklin E. Drillon on Valentine’s Day in 1939. He preceded her in death in August of 1969.
Marguerite lived most of her 95 wonderful years in Chillicothe where she worked for Mannering’s Men’s wear and the Dolph House, and in Peoria at the Willow Nook Gift Shop. She was an art teacher and self-employed artist and crafter, and spent many joyful hours in her woodworking shop and painting studio. Maggie provided many memories to her friends and family with her personal painting trademarks of grapes, roses, and ladybugs.
She was a communicant and active member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe, and a member of Pearce Community Center.
Surviving are her children: Ann (Gary) Thompson of Olympia WA, Betsy (Rick Harney) Drillon of Normal, IL, Emile (Marian) Drillon of Thomaston, CT, and son-in-law, Fred Grimm of Peoria, IL, her grandchildren: Kelly (Robert) Ruther, James Grimm, Frank (Jennifer) Grimm, Theresa Ragusa Jones, Anthony Ragusa, Benjamin Harney, Parker (Lauren) Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Miriel Thompson, Amanda (Jeremy) De Vault, Antone Drillon, and Allison Snow, and her great-grandchildren: Andrew Huskey, Joshua Huskey, Abigail Ruther, Addison Grimm, Delaney Grimm, Hannah Grimm, Tyler Grimm, and Lucy Thompson, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Maggie’s life was especially blessed with her dearest friends, Lucy Mundy, Dale and Lucille Pope, Deborah Breen, Gloria Duvall, and the Goebel family, all of Chillicothe, and Jeanette Mariani of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers (including Gail “Mike” F. Myers of Chillicothe), two sisters, and daughter, Kathy Grimm.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial Mass will be held under the direction of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1216 N. 6th St., Chillicothe. The Reverend Keith Walder will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private internment will be held at the Chillicothe City Cemetery.

Maggie touched the hearts of everyone she met with her warmth, love of life, God, and family, and will be dearly missed by her family, and all of her precious friends, who will no longer need a phone to request a rosary.

Lyle W. Allen

PEORIA – Lyle W. Allen, 87, of Peoria, passed away Saturday March 3, 2012, at his home.
Born June 17, 1924 in Chillicothe, IL, to Donald M. and Mary Ellen McEvoy Allen, he married Helen M. Kolar August 16, 1947 in Fox River Grove, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, and one grandson, Eric Allen.
Survivors include his sister Mary A. Lynch of Wyoming, IL., his brother, James R. (Mary) Allen of Prescott, AZ., one daughter, Mary Elizabeth (and Warren) Watkins of Peoria, Il, one son, Bryan J. (and Debra) Allen of Dunlap, IL, grandsons Matthew (and Breanna) Allen of Peoria, Jason (and Jessica) Allen of Peoria Heights, one step granddaughter, and three great grandsons.
A 1942 graduate of Chillicothe High School, he received his preparatory education at Northwestern University (B.S. 1947). He received his legal education at Columbia University and the University of Wisconsin (J.D. 1950). In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. As member of the 87th Infantry Division in the European Theater of WWII, he earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He was admitted to the Illinois and Wisconsin bars in 1950. In 1951 he joined the Peoria, IL. law firm of Heyl, Royster, & Voelker. He was admitted to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in 1954, and to the United States Supreme Court in 1960. In 1962 the firm’s name was changed to Heyl, Royster, Voelker, & Allen.
Mr. Allen was a member of the ISBA Committee on Forms from 1962-64; a member of the Council of the Civil Practice and Procedure Section from 1955-61, of which he was secretary from 1956-61 and editor of Trial Briefs, the Section’s Newsletter, from 1961-63; secretary of the Council of the Insurance Law Section from 1963-64, and has been a member of the Board of Governors since 1964.
He was elected Third Vice President of the ISBA in 1969, succeeded to Second Vice President in 1970, and to First Vice President in 1971. He was the 96th President of the Illinois State Bar Association 1972-73. He became a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association in 1971.
Mr. Allen is a member of the following legal organizations: Peoria County Bar Association (President 1982-83); The Chicago Bar Association; Illinois State Bar Association; Wisconsin Bar Association; American Bar Association; Bar Association of the 7th Federal Circuit; American Judicature Society (Board of Directors, 1971); Workmen’s Compensation Lawyers Association; Society of Trial Lawyers of Illinois; Federation of Insurance Council (Board of Governors 1964-66); and Association of Insurance Attorneys (President, 1965-66). He is a Fellow of the American College Trial Lawyers.

Irene E. Wittekiend, age 82, of Chillicothe died on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 8:30 P.M. at her home.
She was born on August 20, 1929 in Peoria, IL the daughter of William and Charity Mae (Braun) Kitselman. She married Harold V. Wittekiend on June 2, 1971 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2005.
Surviving are two sons: Bill (Jane) Hawks of Phoenix, AZ, and David (Jeanette) Hawks of Peoria Heights; three daughters: Deborah L. (Richard) Eastin of Princeton, MO, Susan (Jimmy) Barlow of Bartonville, Angela J. (Donald) Sullivan of Washington, sixteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. Also surviving are two sisters; Jean Rinkenberger of Mesa, AZ and Joanna Zaborac of Eden, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one grandson and two great-grandsons.
Irene was a member of the Rome Baptist Church, the Chillicothe Red Hat Society and the Pearce Community Center.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held 4-5pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe followed by a memorial service at 5pm. Julie L. Edminster, 54, of Chillicothe died on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at her home.
She was born on April 17, 1957 in Peoria, IL the daughter of Billy E. and Martha L. (Sweeney) Edminster.
Surviving is her mother of Chillicothe; one son, Thomas E. Edminster of Chillicothe; one brother, Steven Edminster of Chillicothe; two sisters: Karen (Steven) Herriford of Chillicothe and Kay Tabor of Bradenton, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and one niece.
She worked as a Veterinary Technician for Parkview Vet Clinic in Ft. Madison, IA.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Rev. Ted Mitchell will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Rescue 33 or to ARK.

James Leo Barry, 72 of Chillicothe passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at his residence.
He was born February 25, 1940 in Monmouth, Il the son of Ralph and Mary Margaret (Schink) Goodwin. He married Susie B. Martin on November 10, 1966 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters; Terri (Rob) Zarley of Chillicothe and Stacy Blaine of Chillicothe, one son; David Barry of Chillicothe, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Also surviving is one sister; Joann Rush of Kewanee, Il.
James was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in the Vietnam war.
He worked for International Paper in Peoria, IL for 30 years. He later worked for Galena Gravel and the Chillicothe Park District.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 (noon) on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at the Chillicothe City Cemetery with military rites.
